Vintage Latin American Painting by Marco Antonio Gomez
Vintage Latin American Painting by Marco Antonio Gomez
Known as the Western American Master Painter, this Marco Antonio Gomez painting is a portrayal of South American indigenous life. Born in 1910, the Southwest cowboy artist's work has been estimated to sell up to $7,000 per painting. This piece of art depicts a traditional South American woman tending the sheep, spinning wool while her baby sleeps on her back. And let's not forget that she's managing to balance a basket on her head! A woman's work is never the done. Actually what looks like a basket might really be a hat. I suspect by the woman's costume, that she comes from Argentina or Peru, note the volcano in the background.
The painting was most likely painted in the 40's or 50's. Most of Gomez's work illustrates more traditional western themes with lot's of cowboys and horses on the open range. Measures 21 1/4” by 25 1/4" including frame. 15 5/8” x 19 3/8” without the frame. The piece has just come back from the framer and in the manner of the mid-50's, it is framed with a beautiful, warm wood and textured linen. So chic!
