We've been doing research on this hat and it appears that it comes from the Miao tribe. The people are a diverse group of seminomadic farming people living traditionally in the mountains villages of southeastern China and adjacent areas of Laos, North Vietnam, and Thailand. Their costumes are different from other areas, rich in embroidery and specific designs that distinguish them from other parts of China.
The silver ornaments on the top of this fabulous piece caught our eye. The bird that is subtly ensconced in the myriad of silver metal is beautiful as well as the hat's hand embroidery.
