I've always loved rustic, folksy, classic painting of still life's, in particular, food. This one is particularly good, a real study of shapes and light. The roundness of the onions, peeling, partial skin falling off the onion. And then there's the cylinder, to the left. A lager of ale? A long winters night with the beginning of a stew? The colors, though muted, are very atmospheric and imbue the image with sepia toned reality. And the frame is classic Mexican Rococo, goes with almost anything, yet better than what was popular back in the day.
As for the artist, so far, all we can determine is T. Welle???
